WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
Children are the most at risk of experiencing cavities and tooth decay. They’re also often quite nervous and afraid of the dentist so a team that can build great rapport with the child is incredibly important.
At Royal Crown Family Dental, we make it a fun experience for the little ones! Jordan is incredible with children and makes them feel welcomed. Dr Maher makes the experience enjoyable with fun balloons, quirky jokes and is patient and gentle. Everything that is happening is clearly explained to the child so it is a highly educational experience. We also have a ceiling-mounted TV that your child can watch their favourite shows on while we work on their teeth!
We also know how tough it can be to visit the dentist in between your busy lifestyle and your school hours. That's why we offer after-hours children's dentistry!
AREN’T THEIR BABY TEETH GOING TO FALL OUT ANYWAY?
This is a common thing we hear and to an extent, it may be true. For example, if your little one is experiencing a minor cavity and we know that their permanent teeth are going to erupt shortly, we will often suggest that no action is taken. However, there are many cases where it is critical that your dentist intervene. This may include:
Cavities and tooth decay: If your child has cavities or tooth decay, it is important to have it fixed and a dental filling put in place to ensure that the tooth decay does not progress. Even if your child is not experiencing pain, it is important that their teeth remain healthy before their adult teeth come through or this can lead to further issues.
Premature tooth loss: If your child loses a baby tooth prematurely (that is before their permanent teeth are ready to erupt), this can cause teeth to shift and crowding of the underlying adult teeth may occur. That can cause their adult teeth to erupt crooked which may be costly in the future. This can occur from an accident such as a fall or sporting injury, or from tooth decay.
Aches and pains: Usually caused by tooth decay but often from other issues, it is important that we resolve this as it can be severely painful and cause future problems not only physically, but also mentally. It is common that a phobia of dentists in adulthood (dentophobia) is linked back to a traumatic dental experience as a child. Regular check-ups, cleans and early intervention can ensure that your child does not have to deal with any painful procedures.
There are many, many reasons to look after your children's teeth and have your child see their dentist regularly. Ensuring their adult teeth erupt nice and straight, reduce the potential of requiring braces and keeping your child pain-free is important!
